I wrote this song in 2009, after having attended a yoga workshop that triggered an emotional rollercoaster which turned me inside out.
I had been single for quite some time, convincing myself I was doing fine, which I was not.
I was desperate for a meaningful connection with another human being, but kept finding myself in unhealthy situations of unrequited love.
I finally reached a point where I told myself that love was like a drug and going cold turkey was the only solution to moving forward.
On June 21, at 2:37am, I posted a note on Facebook in stream of consciousness style entitled “late at night/early morning”. Not much of that piece of writing survived, except for the last five lines, which would become the pre-chorus and chorus of “All I Have”.
The rest of the lyrics were initially conceived as an unusual kind of love song, inspired by the 12 step AA recovery program and the Just For Today sobriety aid card.
With yoga as a journey of transformation in mind, I wanted to turn a deeply personal pain into a universal message of trust and hope.
The more I sang it (mostly during Śavāsana or at the end of a kirtan), the more it became a healing yoga anthem for myself and others.
